Why are there no joinings in the ruling Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh. Till the other day, the leaders and MLAs from the YSRCP had joined the TDP. But, now the defections have suddenly stopped. No YSRCP leader is now joining the TDP. In fact, more people are joining the YSRCP and the Jana Sena today than the TDP. No one seems to give a thought to joining the TDP.
Insiders say that there are two main reasons for this. One is that those MLAs who had already joined the TDP are now no-where people. They are neither here nor there. Most of them are unsure of getting TDP tickets. YSRCP MLAs like Giddi Eswari, Bhuma Akhilapriya and Adinarayana Reddy are finding that original TDP people are not supporting them. Even if the TDP gives them ticket, the cadre might not support them. All of them have strong local rivals in their constituencies. The plight of these MLAs is making the other YSRCP MLAs to think twice before leaving the party.
More important is the fact that the TDPâs fortunes are now on the down swing. The TDP leaders are now finding that the going is tough in the coming elections. Non-fulfilment of poll time assurances is coming back to haunt them. So, new arrivals into the TDP have tapered off. Today, interestingly, more people are joining the YSRCP rather than the TDP.
