Why YSRCP's importance has gone up at national level?

Update: 2022-03-14 05:47 GMT
The importance of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy  -led YSRCP is likely to go further up in the BJP scheme of things. The YSRCP would now be courted by the BjP in view of the upcoming election for the Presidential elections. The BJP is likely to seek the support of both the Biju Janata Dal in Odisha and YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh.

Though the BJP has won four of the five assembly elections it had fought recently, its total strength of the MLAs has actually come down. So, its vote percentage for the presidential elections has come down from 49.9 percent to 48.8 per cent. The BJP, which just needed 0.2 per cent more votes to get its nominee elected, will now need 1.12 per cent votes. Thus, despite the victories, its dependence on other parties.

In UP alone, the BJP and its friendly parties lost about 50 seats. In the last assembly, the NDA had 323 seats. It has come down to 273.  The value of each MLA's vote for the president's election is 208. Thus, it has fallen short by 10400 votes. In Uttarakhand, the BJP strength fell down from 56 to 47.  The vote value fell down by 560 votes. In Manipur, it fell from 36 to 32, thus incurring a loss of 72 electoral college votes. In Goa, the other state that the BJP strength fell down from 28 to 20. The total loss of electoral college vote value is 160. Thus, the total shortfall is 11,208 as against the pre-election shortfall of 1712.

Hence, the BJP leadership is likely to seek the support of the YSRCP and the BJP. Each MLA vote in AP is worth 159 and in Odisha it is 149. The value of the MP vote is 708. These would be enough for the BJP to sail through. The BJP leadership is already in talks with these regional parties.  So, the importance of the YSRCP is sure to go up at the national level.
