Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar Graduates Constituency MLC candidate and popular Left-leaning TV personality Prof K Nageshwar is in a fix. He cannot openly admit that he is getting support from the ruling TRS as it is becoming increasingly unpopular. At the same time, his campaign cannot kick into gear without the support from the TRS.
Till recently, Prof. Nageswhar had played his cards well. He did not openly attack the TRS government's performance and adopted a friendly approach towards the YSRCP government in AP. He felt that he would get the support from the sections that support the TRS and YSRCP, but have votes in his constituency. At the same time, he adopted a soft Hindutva approach to placate the growing band of BJP workers. But, now that the MLC election notification is set to come in a day or two, he can neither welcome TRS support nor reject it. There are indications that the TRS may not put up a candidate and extend its support to Prof. Nageshwar. If this happens, the anti-incumbency mood against the TRS could rub off on Prof. Nageshwar.
Insiders say that the response to his campaign so far has been lukewarm with only Left Party workers backing him. Unless the TRS supports him, his campaign cannot pick pace. If the TRS supports, he is sure to lose a lot of votes due to the anti-TRS mood prevailing in the graduate voters, especially the unemployed.
