Target one lakh. That seems to be the winning formula of both the TRS and the BJP in Munugode. The poll strategists of both the parties feel that he who gets one lakh votes will win the bypoll. They feel that the party should target at least 1.5 lakh voters to get the winning margin on the polling day.
Munugode has a total of 2.38 lakh votes. The maximum polling percentage in Munugode was 91 per cent. Assuming that around 90 per cent vote this time, around 1.90 lakh votes would be cast. The winner will have to get around one lakh, say pollsters. Hence, all the major parties are focusing on getting at least one lakh votes, which will give an unassailable majority.
Both the BJP and the TRS have a solid vote bank of up to 75,000. Both the parties are now trying to get another 25000 votes. Among these are floating or undecided voters, who would number around 15000. Secondly, both the parties are poaching the Congress Party, which is now in the third position. The BJP is eyeing these two voter groups.
Meanwhile, BSP too is working hard to wean away the Dalit votes in Munugode. If the BSP manages to get around 5000 votes, it would seriously jeopardise the chances of the ruling TRS. Sources say that both the parties are planning to garner up to 1 lakh votes so that they can romp home comfortably.
