Zomato CEO tries to take a dig at Swiggy. apologies later

Update: 2021-04-15 13:40 GMT
Given the fact that Maharashtra is struggling with the Coronavirus outbreak, the state government has already imposed lockdown-like restrictions to curb the Coronavirus infections.

While imposing strict restrictions, the state government has directed the theatres, shopping malls, and multiplexes to follow the rules issued on the occupancy.

On the other hand, the government directed the restaurants and other eateries to do away with the dining-in facility until further notice to counter the ongoing Coronavirus crisis.

However, as a big relief for the eateries and customers, the government said, home deliveries will be allowed. Home deliveries will be permitted with some restrictions, the state government said.

Against this backdrop, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal took a potshot at Swiggy as the food-delivery service is carrying out foot deliveries after 8 PM. He even tagged the Mumbai Police in his tweet to get a clarification on this.

"Zomato is prepared to provide the essential food delivery service post 8pm in Mumbai, but we are not doing so because we are abiding by the letter of the law. I see our competition is continuing to operate post 8pm. I urge @MumbaiPolice to please clarify the way forward here," Deepinder Goyal tweeted.

Replying to the Zomato CEO's tweet, Mumbai Police urged him to read the government notification kindly. "Kindly read the Govt Notification. It says that Home Delivery is allowed but there is no time limit specified," Mumbai Police tweet reads.

The Zomato Ceo thanked the Mumbai Police for the reply, "Thank you. Mumbai, we are on tomorrow. We have received the notice at 9:54pm. @swiggy_in - I am sorry, had no other choice. I love you," his tweet reads.
