It is already known that the government of Andhra Pradesh had been enforcing strong regulations with regard to the imposition of social media laws in the state. And now, the latest developments are suggesting that the government is contemplating a complete ban of social media for kids under 16 years of age.
The Andhra Pradesh government is actively considering a ban on social media usage for children below the age of 16.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed the state police department to conduct a detailed study on the impact of social media on minors and recommend possible measures to regulate their access. The move comes amid growing concerns over the negative influence of unchecked online activity on young minds.
The Chief Minister stressed that the increasing misuse of social media platforms has led to issues such as cyberbullying, misinformation, and character assassination. He stated that this “unchecked culture” must be curbed before it causes deeper social damage.
Naidu also made it clear that strict action should be taken against anyone involved in defaming or targeting individuals online, emphasizing that freedom of expression should not turn into a tool for harassment.
Officials are expected to examine existing regulations in other regions and explore technological safeguards that could help enforce age restrictions. If necessary, the state government is prepared to introduce a special law to ensure stronger control over minors’ access to social media.
The proposed step reflects the government’s intention to create a safer digital environment for children while promoting responsible online behavior across society.
