18 OTT Platforms Face Ban By The Union Government!

Along with the growing popularity, there is also a criticism that the lack of censorship is creating a space for vulgar content and hence a tab should be put in.

The Covid outbreak helped the OTT platforms by creating a big space for them to flourish. The platforms grabbed the opportunity with both hands. The growth of OTTs can be seen as before and after the Covid. OTTs became the go-to platform for entertainment lovers.

Along with the growing popularity, there is also a criticism that the lack of censorship is creating a space for vulgar content and hence a tab should be put in. The demand for this is not a new one and has been going on for some time.

The union government took a sensational decision on the OTTs as 18 of them were blocked along with a few websites. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting said that due to the vulgar content, these platforms were banned. The list of the platforms was also issued.

Besides the platforms, 10 apps and 57 social media accounts were also blocked and the public cannot access them with this.

Some of the apps that were blocked are from the Google Play store while the rest of them are from the Apple store. The OTT platforms have lakhs of views that were banned.

The Union Government has been warning the platforms to follow the rules. As the platforms failed to follow the rules strict action was taken as they were pulled down. The big action came from the Union government days after Anurag Thakur said OTTs airing vulgar content have to face the impact.
