Whenever a new party is floated it will have a stand. Its ideology becomes a mantra that decides its style of functioning. If we take the Telugu Desam Party as an example it worked on empowering the BCs initially. TDP founder-chief Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao encouraged BCs and other communities.

Not just the backward classes but even the poor candidates were encouraged. This is what empowerment means. They were given a platform to enter the Houses and be the voice of the voiceless. Very rarely we see such personalities. That is where NTR stands alone. As a result, the party had supporters and vote banks across the communities.

But this is all history. However there is a strong criticism that the party came away from its stand after the change in leadership. Many say that after Chandrababu Naidu took over the party Bcs and communities stopped getting the support.

Not just the BCs, even the aspirants coming from humble backgrounds were ignored. Instead of them, rich candidates and capitalists were given preference who are accused of earning a large amount of lands after coming to power.

The hardcore supporters and followers of the Telugu Desam Party are seeing it hard to digest the harsh reality. They wonder how the party can come out of the ideology. The change in the stand led to the candidates who were not rich leaving the party slowly.

The observers say that the 2019 results are an example of this. We can barely mention the poor candidates who were given tickets in the last examples. The way the TDP is ignoring the BCs and others was evident in the recent candidates list.

BCs have a strong presence in the state and their population would be around 40 percent. Considering this they should get more than 40 percent of share in the state that has 175 seats. But the reality is that only 18 seats were allocated for the BCs. The situation is even worse for the minorities. Only one candidate was given a ticket.

However, Chandrababu Naidu’s community was allocated as many as 21 seats. The community has just four percent population. It is said that the BC communities feel they were backstabbed again. As they are not happy with this, they might show their anger in the upcoming elections.
