Fathers are the backbone of families and pillars of strength. They hold a special place in our lives, providing support, guidance, and love. While we show appreciation for our fathers throughout the year, there is a special day dedicated to honoring all they do. This day is known as Father's Day, celebrated in many countries, including India, on the third Sunday of June.

The idea of Father's Day has an interesting history. In 1910, during a Mother's Day church service, a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd from Washington suggested that fathers should be honored similarly to mothers. Sonora's suggestion stemmed from her personal experience; she lost her mother at the age of 16, and her father, an American Civil War veteran, raised her and her five siblings alone. Recognizing her father's efforts and sacrifices, Sonora approached Spokane's Ministerial Association to propose the idea of a Father's Day.

Sonora initially suggested June 5th for Father's Day, as it was her father's birthday. However, the ministers needed more time to prepare for the service, so they chose June 19th instead. Consequently, Washington celebrated its first Father's Day on the third Sunday of June.

Since then, Father's Day has become a tradition, spreading to various parts of the world. It is a day to express gratitude and appreciation for the love, support, and guidance that fathers provide. Father's Day serves as a reminder of the important role fathers play in shaping our lives and the value of celebrating their contributions.
