2nd Phase Elections: Meet the Richest Candidates!

The first phase was held recently and a few states were covered.

Increasing the political heat further, the Lok Sabha elections started. However, the elections will be held in a few phases. The first phase was held recently and a few states were covered. The second phase of elections will be held in a few days. More than 1200 candidates are in the race for the polls.

As the second phase of elections will be held on 26th of this month, the focus went on to the rich candidates. The data says that three candidates are at the top position. Let us have a look at them.

Venkataramane Gowda: The popular contractor is the Congress party candidate for the Mandua seat. Sumalatha is the sitting MP here. She supported the JD(S)-BJP alliance and backed out of elections. The ruling Congress in Karnataka picked Venkataramane Gowda as the candidate. He is the richest candidate with assets worth over Rs 622 cr. He is at the top on the list.


DK Suresh: Another Congress leader on the list. He is the brother of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. He is the Congress candidate from the Bangalore Rural seat. He has assets worth Rs 593 cr and he is in second place. It is said that his assets increased by around 75 percent compared to 2019 polls.


Hema Malini: A BJP candidate finds a spot. Bollywood Dream Girl is the sitting Mathura MP. She won twice and is in the race for another time. She is the third richest candidate with assets worth Rs 278 crore.


The list was prepared by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) after examining the election affidavits of the candidates. There are crorepatis as well in the election race. 33 percent of candidates are crorepatis and their assets range from one crore to tens and hundreds of crores.
