Thanks to the internet revolution, India has become one of the biggest consumers of social media in recent years and now we are witnessing a very strange phenomenon. A comparison doing the rounds online has sparked debate over how the creator economy is outpacing traditional public service pay in India.

As per the figures being shared, an IAS officer serving as Cabinet Secretary earns about ₹5,00,000 per month in hand. The highest rank IPS and IFS officers draw roughly ₹3,00,000 per month.

A government specialist doctor is estimated at ₹5,00,000 per month, while a Chief Engineer in government service earns around ₹2,50,000 per month. Government CA or CS officers are said to receive close to ₹2,00,000 per month.

In sharp contrast, Muskan Karia, an Instagram influencer, is reportedly earning nearly ₹14,00,000 per month through brand collaborations, promotions, and paid content on social media platforms.

The numbers have ignited discussion on how digital influence and audience reach are converting into incomes that surpass those of some of the most senior and powerful government roles.

Observers say this reflects the fast rise of the creator economy, where visibility, engagement, and personal branding have become highly monetizable assets.

While civil servants shoulder significant responsibility in governance and public welfare, influencers are benefiting from advertising driven revenue streams that reward popularity and online presence. The viral comparison is prompting fresh conversations about evolving career aspirations among young Indians.
