Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not like others who held the office in the past. He enjoys a super-popularity not just in India but outside the country as well. After he assumed the PMO, there has been a big change in the way India behaves. India is taking a strong stand on its interests.

The Russia-Ukraine war can be cited as a big example. No matter how strongly other nations tried to put pressure, India did not take a backstep and voted against Russia. When the Western media tried to target India on the oil purchase, India hit back and said that Europe was buying more oil than India and asked the media to ask Europe first.

The ongoing India-Maldives row is a prime example of how India can create an impact. Narendra Modi's social media is so powerful that it is enough to shake the South Asian nation Maldives at once. The country is facing the heat now.

Narendra Modi recently visited Lakshadweep and explored the vacation there. His visit created a lot of interest among Indians in the Union Territory. People are searching for the UT and the tickets booked for Maldives were also canceled.

Travel company Make My Trip said that there was an increase of 3400% in the on-platform searches after Modi's visit. The platform even started the Beaches of India' campaign to highlight the beaches.

Not only that a few Indian celebrities came out in support and said that they would promote Maldives. The list of celebrities who are willing to promote the UT is very big and has some famous names. This could be a big factor.

These developments are a big threat to Maldives, for which tourism is the leading income source. Moreover, Maldives is the preferred destination of celebrities who go there whenever they get the opportunity.

Sensing the danger that the trend would cause, Maldives leaders and people started hitting back. A few unwanted comments were made and three Ministers were removed from their posts. Indian High Commission reportedly questioned the Ministers comments and asked for an explanation.

The ongoing feud only adds fuel to the doubts about India-Maldives ties. India has been maintaining good ties with Maldives for a very long time. Previous Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also continued the trend.

But many questions were raised when the newly elected President of Maldives Mohamed Muizzu asked Indian troops to leave the land. Muizzu is dubbed as Pro-China and the decisions he takes are said to be in favour of the Dragon China.
