This is one of the serious offences in the US and can lead to serious consequences, but that is not stopping certain individuals from doing it for the sake of quick money.

The same is to be understood if you we look at an Indian origin individual named Rambhai Patel, who has pleaded guilty in a U.S. visa fraud case from 2023.

Rambhai Patel, a 37-year-old Indian in the US, was sentenced to 20 months in prison for visa fraud conspiracy. According to the legal jurisdiction, he staged fake armed robberies at stores to help participants fraudulently obtain U visas as "victims."

In this operation, this Patel profited around $850K and he has been guilty in this case. Now that the legal course of action has been initiated, he is likely to be departed from the United States after serving his prism sentence of 20 months.

This incident dates back several months as Rambhai Patel pleaded guilty in May 2025 to staging nine armed robberies across U.S. states, charging "victims" thousands for fake crime reports to secure U non-immigrant visas, with sentencing set for August 2025.

Fundamentally, U-Visas provide temporary status and work authorization to crime victims who assist law enforcement. The official records show at least five similar fraud conspiracies since 2023 involving Indian nationals, including a Louisiana scheme that processed hundreds of applications via bribed police chiefs.

Now that he has been prevent guilty, the court has sentenced him to 20 months in prison, and he faces the risk of deportation once this sentence is complete.
