There was a famous practice in the United States of America, which mandated every newborn child who is born on American soil to be granted the US passport, regardless of the visa situation of the family. However, this long-standing tradition has been immediately removed by the newest executive order passed by the New president, Donald Trump.

A few minutes back, Trump signed a new executive order, which cancels the citizenship, grant and here is a look at the story.

The birthright citizenship executive order Trump signed today means children of non-citizens or non-permanent residents will not be US citizens. Children of Indians who are in the 100+yr green card wait WILL NOT be US citizens. This comes to effect from Feb 20, 2025.

The conditions that were set for this amendment of the birthright citizenship include - When that person's mother was unlawfully present in the United States and the father was not a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person's birth, or

(2) when that person's mother's presence in the United States at the time of said person's birth was lawful but temporary (such as, but not limited to, visiting the United States under the auspices of the Visa Waiver Program or visiting on a student, work, or tourist visa) and the father was not a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person's birth.

This permanent move will largely affect the Indian community as even green card holders will not be entitled to the long-standing birthright citizenship act. This is going to be one of the most controversial and debated executive orders signed by the new President Trump, who is a man on a mission now.
