Indian Jewellery Outlets Being Targeted In the US?

The Indian community is growing in the West in the US to be precise. Indians make up a big share of Asians living in the United States. However, the growth in the Indian population is also seeing a rise in attacks. Of late, we are hearing of attacks on Indians and Indian-origin people.

Looking at the trend it looks like not just the Indians but the businesses owned by Indians are also not safe. As per the media reports a popular jewelry store in Berkeley suffered a big loss with a robbery as ornaments worth millions of dollars were stolen.

If we have to take anything from the media information the Bombay Jewelry Company in Berkeley was targeted by a group of robbers. They reportedly reached the store in a vehicle with weapons. In a flash, they left the store with the ornaments worth $500,000.

A case has been filed and the investigation is underway. What concerns is that this is the third such incident in the country this year. The collective amount of the stolen ornaments would be high.

What’s common in the three incidents is that the thieves came in big numbers with weapons and robbed the stores. In one case the accused are said to have been arrested.

One is that gun violence is growing in the country as anyone can get a weapon. The second one is there is a growing concern over the security at the stores. Despite such incidents, the administration did not give any hope of providing security. Jewelry shops have a big stock of ornaments which makes them the prime target. Despite this, no security was provided.

Earlier we have seen Indian women becoming targets for robberies as they wear gold ornaments. Now it looks like the focus was shifted to the gold shops.
