Districts Reorganization brings new headache to AP Govt!

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took a major step in fulfilling the election promise he made before the elections. As part of the same effort, new districts were introduced in the state based on the Parliament constituencies. The new development took the number of districts in the state to 26.

However, the districts reorganization decision gave birth to widespread objections and protests from various regions in the state. The list of regions raising the objections is getting bigger and bigger with each passing day.

The protests have started with a few Kapu leaders objecting to the decision to name the Vijayawada district after yesteryear Tollywood Superstar and former Chief Minister late Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao. They have raised a new demand that the newly made district should be named after Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga.

Joining the force a new demand had popped up from the Hindupur Assembly constituency that it should be made the district headquarters as it has the better resources and facilities. Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna also took part in the protest and held a silent protest to support the demand.

Forget about other regions, protests raising a few objections have erupted in CM Jagan's own district, Kadapa. People in Rayachoti have been protesting with a demand that it should be made the district headquarters instead of Rajampet.

There is also a demand that Kurnool district should be named after Damodaram Sanjivayya, Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh as the district happens to be the own district of the leader. The demand was not raised by Andhra Pradesh leaders. Telangana Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao had pitched the demand and even sat for a protest at Damodaram Sanjivayya's residence.

On the other hand, there are protests demanding that the regions should be continued in the erstwhile districts and a few demands say that the regions should be added in other districts.

With the new districts row turning out to be a new headache, the Andhra Pradesh government had reportedly constituted a new committee to look into the objections in the issue. After considering the objections, the committee is likely to issue a final notification next month.
