The political heat in the country increased at once as the media reports were abuzz that the Union government is reportedly on the path to changing the country’s name to Bharat from India. The opposition parties are aggressively targeting the BJP on the alleged proposal.

It is known that the opposition parties came under one roof and their alliance is named INDIA. With the reports saying that the country’s name would be changed an intense debate is going on about the possibilities and the changes that come with it.

While we are yet to hear an official word from the government, there is a mixed reaction from the celebrities. Celebrities like Virender Sehwag, Kangana Ranaut, Amitabh Bachchan, and others supported the move while a few others questioned what is the need to do so.

Amid the intense debate, experts weigh in on this and say that it is not that easy to change the name of India To Bharat, and a few amendments should be made to the Constitution. Adding further they say that one country cannot have two names and a few changes to be made to the articles in the country.

Speaking to a national media outlet former Lok Sabha Secretary General P D T Achary talked about the challenges the process should have to go through. He mentioned Article 1 of the Indian Constitution and said that a few articles should be amended.

Mr. Achary said that Article 1 of the Indian Constitution says 'India, that is Bharat' and hence we cannot have two names for the country. Adding further, he said that not just Article 1, changes have to be made in other articles in the Constitution.

Well, the process won't end there. How the global bodies recognize us should also be changed. For example, the Intergovernmental organization United Nations recognizes India as the Republic of India. So if the country’s name has to be changed, then we should send the same information to the United Nations saying that the name of the country is changed.

A lot of exercise has to be done in the country as well. From Currency notes to banks everything has to be changed and ID cards should also be changed which requires a lot of manpower and money. Let us wait and see what happens.
