'Rowdy' Vijay Devarakonda's maiden production venture 'Meeku Maatrame Chepta' released last Friday to lukewarm reception from the critics and audience alike. Though there were some funny sequences here and there, the film was panned for its low production values and dragging in the second half.
With the weekend coming to an end, the collections are out and the film may end up in losses to its buyers. The rights for the Vishaka region were sold for 40 lakhs but the collections were just over 10 lakhs. Trade circles say that except in the Nizam area, the film is performing poorly in all other regions. The overseas rights were given for 80 lakhs while the revenues were not even half as per sources.
On the flip side, Vijay ended up in profits with this film. The theatrical rights were sold for 2.5 crores while the satellite and digital rights summed up to another 2 crores. This shows that Vijay's promotions turned fruitful for himself but not the distributors.
