The film industry is facing another tense standoff between producers and worker unions. Talks meant to end the dispute failed, and work remains at a standstill.

Producers agreed to raise wages for workers earning below ₹2,000 a day. But some unions wanted the hike for everyone, including higher-paid workers. Producers said they couldn’t manage that in the current situation. They also asked for changes in some working conditions, which unions rejected.

The strike has now entered its tenth day. Many daily-wage workers say they’re ready to get back to work but are stuck because of union pressure. With no shoots happening, projects are delayed, and losses are mounting.

Both sides are holding their ground. Producers worry about costs climbing, while unions insist their demands are fair. Until one side bends, the industry stays stuck, and the longer it drags on, the tougher the recovery will be.
