Kangana Ranaut continues to write her own story in the big theater of Bollywood, where industry circles and international accolades frequently determine recognition. She started out as an outsider who made a name for herself with daring parts and item numbers, but she has since grown into a formidable actress, director, and now political figure who is not afraid to question the established quo.

Following Emergency's ascent to the top spot on Netflix, there was a recent flurry of conversation about the movie and its Oscar possibilities on the internet. A fan recommended that the movie represent India at the Academy Awards, among the many other honours. Kangana, however, forcefully disagreed with the notion, calling the Oscars "silly" and charging that America is a global bully that "suppresses and arm-twists developing nations." She reaffirmed her position, saying that India does not want Western approval because it has its own distinguished National Awards.

Her comments generated discussions within the sector. Despite his first preconceptions, director Sanjay Gupta eventually hailed Emergency as a “top-notch and world-class film,” recognizing Kangana’s skill in both directing and acting. Kangana responded by calling on the movie business to overcome its prejudices and highlighting the fact that she is still above stereotypes.

It is evident that Kangana's decisions, whether in her public remarks or her filmmaking, continue to influence her legacy, as Emergency gains popularity on OTT and sparks discussions outside of the movie industry. Will more directors follow her example and challenge the Western gaze as Bollywood negotiates its changing identity on the international scene, or will international recognition continue to be appealing?
