Whenever we look at fan wars, many times a comment pops up that “Baahubali” is the first film that started the pan-India trend, and fans say that Prabhas is the one who did it. Movie lovers, however, attribute the whole success of Baahubali to SS Rajamouli only. However, the legendary director proved why he is legendary, and says that Baahubali hasn’t started the trend in the first place.

“It was not Baahubali that started the trend of pan-India films or a film that will be watched by the whole of the nation. There were movies like Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Koun, which were dubbed into Telugu and Tamil, and became great hits. Their music was a bigger hit than many original Telugu songs. However, while they are superior blockbusters, we haven’t followed them up,” said Rajamouli. “We thought it was a one-off phenomenon and we didn’t follow it up”, says Rajamouli, as to how filmmakers at that time haven’t pursued that pan-India success later on.

Many film lovers are hailing Rajamouli for his comment, as he’s not even in the mood to take credit for the success of Baahubali, and the way Baahubali led to an influx of South films like KGF, Pushpa and Kantara, which have done exceptionally well at the Bollywood box office. On the flip side, many films work everywhere now and then, like how some English films like Jurassic Park also ran across India, but it’s the follow-up that’s key. Currently, South is doing more pan-India films than ever.
