Once known for classics like Shiva, Satya, and Sarkar, Ram Gopal Varma now seems more focused on grabbing attention than telling a strong story. His latest film Saaree hit screens today, and while the concept had some promise, the final product falls flat.
The story doesn’t go anywhere new. It's basic, predictable, and lacks any real emotional hook. Instead of building tension or digging deeper into its idea, the film jumps from scene to scene with no real momentum. It feels more like a draft than a fully thought-out film.
Debut director Giri Kamal follows Varma’s lead closely, but maybe too closely. There’s no fresh take or standout moments. The film also leans heavily on skin show, especially in how it presents its lead actress—which feels unnecessary and off-putting. Many viewers, especially in Tamil Nadu where the film also released, called it out. One summed it up simply: “The title is Saaree, but the actress is barely wearing one. What’s the point?”
In the end, Saaree had the bones of an interesting film but didn’t do anything with them. What could’ve been a bold, thoughtful movie turns out to be yet another forgettable outing in Varma’s recent list of misses. Theatres are empty, reactions are mixed, and the film leaves behind more questions than impact.
