Some films skip the hype and just show up quietly. Radhika Apte’s Sister Midnight is one of them. Released in theaters on May 30 with almost no buzz, the film went mostly unnoticed. Now, just two weeks later, it’s appeared on streaming platforms in the UK  without any major promotion or announcement.

Directed by Karan Kandhari, Sister Midnight is a dark comedy with a bold and raw tone. It was made with the help of Hollywood technicians and takes on some sensitive themes. It’s now available to stream in Hindi on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and Google Play, but only in the UK for now. There’s no word yet on when it’ll be released in India.

The story follows Uma, played by Radhika Apte, who’s pushed into an arranged marriage with a man named Gopal. They live in a cramped Mumbai slum, and their marriage is distant and cold. Gopal avoids physical intimacy, and Uma is left emotionally and physically frustrated. One night, she finally decides to approach him, but by morning, she’s found dead. What happened that night is the heart of the story.

The film doesn’t hold back. Some scenes are blunt, even uncomfortable, but Radhika’s performance brings real depth to Uma’s struggles. Sister Midnight isn’t for everyone it’s intense, a little offbeat, and definitely not a family watch. But if you're curious, it might be worth watching alone and drawing your own conclusions.
