Will the Congress spring a surprise on the opposition parties attending the Bengaluru conclave? Does it have an ace up its sleeve and is out to shock them with a proposal they cannot possibly refuse? If sources are to be believed, the Congress leadership, led by Sonia Gandhi, has a powerful plan to win over the non-BJP parties.

One of the main criticisms of the Congress is that it follows dynastic politics and only someone from the Nehru-Gandhi family rules the party and country, if it comes to power. The party wants to deflect this criticism by the BJP and the clear off the doubts in the minds of friendly parties.

It wants to project AICC president Mallikharjun Kharge as the prime ministerial candidate. Firstly, this will remove the questions in the minds of regional parties about working under a young and inexperienced Rahul Gandhi. Kharge is a senior politician with years of experience in both national and local politics.

Secondly, he comes from a Dalit family and that makes him attractive to parties with a caste basis. He is a south Indian, who speaks fluent Hindi. So, he would be acceptable to both the South as well as the North India. Sources say that the Congress boss Sonia Gandhi might propose Kharge's name for prime ministerial candidate.
