10-12 Million people suffer from mental disorder

The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (Nimhans) have conducted a national mental health survey this year and the study has revealed shocking things. The survey outcomes were revealed by Health Minister J P Nadda said on Friday.

As per the health minister announcement more than 10-12 million people in the country suffer from severe mental disorder. Apart from this another 50 million suffering from common disorders like depression and anxiety. It means one to two percent of the total population suffering from severe mental disorders like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

"Five percent of the population have been suffering  from other  mental disorders such as depression and anxiety, yielding." Nadda said adding government has provided financial assistance for establishment of centre of excellence in the field of mental health.
