Since the second wave of Covid-19 started in India, the hospitals and medical facilities have been gasping for medical oxygen and in some incidents, Covid-19 patients breathed their last due to disruption in medical supply.

One such devastating incident was reported in temple city Tirupati of Andhra Pradesh. The shortage of medical oxygen resulted in as many as 11 patients losing their lives.

Going into details, the medical oxygen supply was disrupted at the state-run SVR Ruia hospital on Monday night in Tirupati. The shortage of oxygen had lasted for nearly 45 minutes.

Talking about the incident, Chittoor District Collector M Hari Narayanan said, the oxygen supply was disrupted after the oxygen tanker that was on its way to the hospital from Tamil Nadu's Chennai was delayed.

To see that the patients who were kept on ventilators won't face any issues, the authorities at the hospital have used bulk cylinders to supply oxygen. With the issues related to oxygen pressure, 11 patients have passed away, the Collector said.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed his grief over the sad incident and called for an inquiry into the issue. Take all the required measures and steps to see that no such incidents take place in the state again, he ordered the concerned officials.

The Tirupati Ruia hospital has 1000-bed capacity. 70 percent of beds, 700 beds were dedicated to Covid-19, who are being treated for the virus. The remaining 300 beds were in normal wards.
