Bindu Ammini was attacked with Chilli Spray near the Ernakulam police commissioner's office. an unidentified person sprayed chilli powder on her. Bindu had gone there to seek police protection as she wants to enter the Sabarimala shrine again this year.
The accused was later arrested. The accused was identified as Sreenath Padmanabhan (28), a native of Kudiyanmala in Kannur. Bindu has been moved to General Hospital in Ernakulam for treatment.
The Supreme Court has referred its 2018 Sabarimala verdict to a larger bench for review but has not stayed its previous order. The Kerala government has said it would not protect women in traditionally barred age group unless they get a court order.
