This is a big blow to the Congress party as the party won half the number of MLA seats that are required to form the government. While 21 MLA seats are required to form the government, the Congress party won 11 seats. Now eight of the MLAs joined the BJP. This makes the Congress almost empty in Goa.
This is not the first time Congress faced a big shock from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Three years back, as many as 10 MLAs shifted their loyalties to the Bharatiya Janata Party from the grand old party. Now eight MLAs took the BJP route.
The Congress MLAs said they are inspired by the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and to support the party they shifted their loyalties to the BJP. The former Congress MLAs' comments are not a surprise as the leaders who shift their loyalties to other parties say the same. We have seen this many times in the past too.
The Congress MLAs joined the BJP leaving the grand old party when former Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi is doing Bharat Jodo Yatra to gather support from various corners. The Yatra was started to highlight the anti-people policies taken by the BJP. When Rahul Gandhi was busy strengthening the party, the MLAs shifted their loyalties to the BJP.
