Chandrababu funds: Notices to Ahmed Patel

Update: 2020-02-20 04:34 GMT
Till now, there were mere speculations. But today, they have been confirmed by no less than the IT wing. All along, there were guestimates that TDP boss Chandrababu Naidu had funded the Congress campaign in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. There were speculations that Chandrababu had used Hawala route to transfer Rs 400 crore to the Congress Party.

Now, the IT raids have found out that there indeed was a hawala transaction between the TDP and the Congress.  Already notices have been served on Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel asking him to appear before the IT officials on February 14 and on February 18. On both occasions, Ahmed Patel excused himself citing falling health. It is now reliably leart that both ED and the Serious Fraud Investigation Office have also planned to join the investigations.  Sources say that sooner than later, Ahmed Patel may have to appear before the IT sleuths.

There were always allegations that Chandrababu has siphoned off funds from various irrigation and housing projects and diverted them to the Congress Party during the assembly elections to Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. Despite that the Congress bit the dust in the Lok Sabha elections thus dashing Chandrababu Naidu's hopes of playing a king-maker at the Centre.
