Flip flop seems to be the second nature of the Left parties. The Left, which celebrated its 100 years in 2018, is in the flip-flop mode when it comes to Telugu states. If one sees the way the party has changed its colours, one would be left bewildered.
From 2014 till 2019, the CPM and the CPI were with the Jana Sena. They backed Pawan Kalyan to the hilt and had electoral alliance with him. Though there were some murmers within the Left, the party's diktat carried the day. In 2018, they contested with the Jana Sena in Telangana elections. But even during this time, the CPM was with Pawan Kalyan and the CPI was with the Congress Party. It refused to support CPM led Bahujana Left front. By 2019, Pawan moved towards the BJP and the Left left him. Between the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 and Graduate MLC constituency elections, CPM sailed with Prof Kodandaram. Together, they addressed rallies and meetings. But, come MLC elections, the CPM ditched Kodandaram and supported the CPI candidate Jayasarathy for Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduate Constituency elections.
Though both the Left parties are at their best when criticising the governments, during the past two years, both the CPI and the CPM did not criticise either KCR in Telangana or Jagan in Andhra Pradesh. They did not lead even a single agitation. Though both Jagan and KCR fully backed the BJP on all its decisions, they found nothing wrong in not agitating against these two parties.
In the Dubbak, they supported TRS to defeat the BJP. But in the GHMC elections, they contested without any alliance. Now for the Nagarjunasagar elections, they are sailing with the TRS. The aim? To defeat the BJP. If ever there was a trophy for flip-flop, then the CPM would surely walk away with it.
