The second wave of Covid-19 is a major concern not only in India but across the globe. Coming to the western nations, the United Kingdom is facing the wrath of the deadly pandemic outbreak.

The Public Health England (PHE) said, the Delta variant of covid, B.1.617.2 was found in as many as 61 percent of the sequenced samples that were assessed. Compared to the other variants, the variant spreads fastly.

The delta variant was detected in India first, which is now ringing the danger bells in the United Kingdom. The delta variant is widely prevalent in the samples, which had surpassed even the Alpha variant, the UK variant.

Seeing the havoc created by the delta variant, the global health agency World Health Organization(WHO) had marked the lineage as a variant of concern(VOC). Not only the UK, but a few other countries had also reported the dominance of the variant.

PHE said that, as the infections caused by the Alpha variant of SARS-CoV-2 are seeing a downfall, the infections triggered by the Delta variant are increasing rapidly. Delta variant also causes secondary attack at a higher rate than the Alpha variant.

New variants of the virus emerge, every time the Coronavirus causing SARS-CoV-2 gets mutated. SARS-CoV-2 has 30,000 base pairs of amino acids. The mutation takes place whenever any one of these bases gets altered.

The Delta variant was subjected to multiple mutations due to protein spike. Out of the mutations, L452R, P681R, D614G, and T478K are important, which come with high transmission.
