Did the TDP err in putting up candidates for Teachers' and graduates' MLC elections?

Update: 2023-03-07 12:04 GMT
Has the TDP made a serious error of judgement on the issue of graduates and the teachers' constituency MLC elections? It appears so. The elections to the teachers' constituencies in Twin Godavari districts, Rayalaseema and the graduates constituency of Uttar Andhra are being held. Usually, these elections are left to the teachers associations. But this time around, the YSRCP decided to throw a surprise.

The YSRCP has put up candidates for these elections. On one hand, the Progressive Democratic Front, a conglomerate of various teachers' bodies, is in the fray. The YSRCP too has announced its candidate. The YSRCP's move was part of a well thought out plan. It did considerable homework before entering the fray. However, the TDP has plunged itself into the contest without much though.

It was more a knee-jerk reaction to the YSRCP move. The party did not even bother to map its strengths. It jumped into the fray just because the YSRCP was contesting. As a result of this move, the anti-YSRCP votes are getting divided between the PDF and the TDP. This will only enable the YSRCP scrape through comfortably due to division of votes. This will help it to project its victories and claim that the people were with it.

What more? The Jana Sena has decided to throw its weight behind the PDF. This has left the TDP high and dry. Now, there is every possibility that the TDP would end up being in the third position. Even the BJP has put up its candidates and this party too would take away its slice of votes. The victory of the YSRCP would turn out to be a morale booster for the ruling party, while the TDP would end up as a big failure.
