Shocking: EC suspends Presiding Officer after EVMs, VVPATs found in TMC leader's residence!
The ruling TMC attracted an unwanted controversy after EVMs and VVPATs were spotted at the residence of the leader of the party on Tuesday. The third phase of the Assembly elections in West Bengal has started today.
As per the media reports, the locals spotted EVM and VVPAT machines were found at TMC leader Gautam Ghosh's residence and informed the same to the cops. A vehicle of an election duty was also spotted outside the TMC leader.
Citing the issue as a gross violation of the election code, the Election Commission has announced that the presiding officer who stored the EVM machines at the TMC leader's residence.
"Tapan Sarkar, sector officer of Sector 17 in AC 177 Uluberia Uttar at Howrah district, went with Reserve EVM and slept at a relative's house. This is a gross violation of EC's instructions for which he has been suspended and charges will be framed for major punishment," EC's statement in this regard said.
The Election Commission has also said that the EVMs found in the TMC leader's residence will not be used for the vote counting.
The third phase of elections covering 31 constituencies in three districts in West Bengal started on Tuesday at 7 AM. 205 contestants are trying their luck in the third phase of elections.
