Finding Fault With Charging A Bomb, Authorities Direct Hospital To Pay Over Rs 10 Lakh For Covid Pat
Private hospitals charging a bomb from Covid-19 patients to offer treatment is leaving a heavy toll on the family members of the patients. The overcharging of the hospitals is making the patients fear the deadly virus even more.
Reacting sharply to an incident where a hospital has followed a Differential pricing in Covid tests, the authorities directed the hospital management to refund a sum of over Rs 10 lakh to the patients.
The incident took place in Maharashtra's Nagpur. The city's civic body, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation issued directives to hospital management to pay back more than Rs 10 lakhs towards 92 patients.
The civic body had also said that strict action would be taken against the private hospital facility for overcharging patients to offer treatment under various sections of Epidemic and Disaster Management Acts and Maharashtra Essential Services Amendment Act.
"Radiance Hospital had reportedly charged different amounts for the same test from 92 patients admitted in its Covid ward. We served a notice to the hospital on May 20th, seeking an explanation but the hospital stayed silent. We then constituted a committee to cross-check the allegations. The committee has given a report after which I have directed the hospital to refund Rs 10,32,243 to the patients concerned or their relatives within seven days of the receipt of the NMC order," press note issued by the civic body reads.
