The fodder scam which became a sensation in the country almost cost Lalu Prasad Yadav his political career. As he was accused in the case, Lalu Prasad made his wife Rabri Devi, the Chief Minister of the combined Bihar. This made Rabri Devi the only female Chief Minister of the state.

The scam came to light back in 1985 when the Bihar Veterinary Association had shed light on the scam. Slowly, everyone had started to talk about this and the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) had stepped in and started to dig deeper to get more details in the case.

Going by the preliminary investigation, Lalu Prasad Yadav, the then Chief Minister of undivided Bihar, and former Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra. Besides them, a few officials across the departments were also arrested.

It was alleged that the Chief Minister had joined hands with a few key officials and made everyone believe that food, medicines, supplies, and others were purchased for the cattle. However, the money that was shown as expenditure was shifted to other areas.

Now Lalu Prasad Yadav is declared convicted in the case as the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) which is hearing the cases said that the court believes the former Chief Minister had withdrawn money worth Rs 139.35 crore.
