Four parties Break Ranks with Congress On Farm Laws

Update: 2021-01-29 07:33 GMT
Are some opposition parties recalibrating their strategy on the farm bills issue? It appears so. At least four parties which were part of the Congress-led opposition delegation that wanted the repeal of the farm laws, have broken ranks. These parties have opted out of the Congress-led boycott of President Ramnath Kovind's address to the joint parliamentary session.

Both BSP and AAP, which were with the Congress, are now out of the boycott. The BSP wants to keep a distance from the Congress in UP, while AAP feels Congress is its chief rival in Punjab. But most surprising is the parting of ways by JMM, which shares power with the Congress in Jharkhand. The JMM has an MP in Rajya Sabha. Though the JMM passed a resolution opposing farm laws in the state assembly, it chose to attend parliament.

Another interesting about-turn is from the TRS. The party has voiced its opposition to the farm laws in the past. But, In fact, TRS leader KK was part of the delegation led by the Congress that met the President the other day. But, now he chose to break ranks and attend parliament.
