Fresh spike in Covid-19 infections in India raises the question of second wave!

India, which has been witnessing fewer fresh Coronavirus infections over the past few months registered a surge in new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours. Nearly, 14,000 fresh infections were reported in the country.

13,993 fresh infections were reported in the past 24 hours, a surge in new infections since January 29. On Jan 29 18,885 infections were reported.

According to the information provided by the Union Health Ministry, four states have reported a surge in new infections. Punjab, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Madhya Pradesh registered a jump in new infections.

With the authorities detecting new variants of the Covid-19  virus in Vidarbha and Mumbai regions of Maharashtra, experts raise a doubt of the second wave of virus spared.

Earlier this week, the authorities have imposed fresh lockdowns in some regions in Maharashtra as a bid to curb the fresh infections. The government has also directed the authorities to see that the public wears face mask.

Out of the four states, Maharashtra has been witnessing a surge in new cases. The state has registered more than 6,000 infections for two days in a row. The authorities have detected a new strain of Coronavirus, which is believed to be more transmissible than the previous version.

The Maharashtra authorities have detected a new lineage of Covid-19 in Amravati and Akola. Compared to the previous strain, the new strain is more transmissible and also causes pneumonia.

The remaining three states have been reporting more than 500 fresh infections over the past few days which is less compared to Maharashtra. But a sudden spike in new cases has resulted in the authorities getting alerted.
