Gutta to be nominated in Governors quota, to stay as council chairperson
Now Telangana legislative council chairperson Gutta Sukhender Reddy can breathe easy. He is all set to be continued as the council chairperson for another term. Chief Minister KCR is said to have decided to give another term to him and has decided to nominate him to the council in the Governor's quota.
Gutta and deputy chairperson Neti Vidyasagar's tenure will expire on June 3. With no chairperson and deputy chairperson in place, the council will have to bring in a protem speaker to officiate till an alternative arrangement is made. The election commission has deferred the elections in view of the Covid situation. As a result, there is no way either Gutta or Neti will get elected.
To circumvent this problem, KCR has reportedly decided to appoint Gutta as an MLC in Governor's quota. The governor's quota does not need election commission's nod. On June 16, the term of Madireddy Srinivas Reddy, who was nominated by the Governor, will expire. In his place, Gutta would be nominated, sources say. For about 13 days, there would be a protem chairperson for the council.
