ICMR Concludes Use of Plasma Therapy Is Not Advisable To Treat Covid-19 Patients
During the initial days of the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak in India, the Convalescent plasma therapy gave hope on treating patients by using the blood of Covdi-19 recovered patients to cure the pandemic.
Now the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the largest medical research bodies opined that the indiscriminate use of Convalescent Plasma Therapy (CPT) should be avoided.
The research body stated that the CPT procedure didn't help in reducing the mortality rate in Coronavirus patients, hence the procedure should be avoided in the treatment.
The ICMR has issued the Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) over the plasma therapy and asked the states to refrain from the use of the CPT procedure.

In the advisory, the ICMR stated that to conclude on the CPT procedure, the body conducted trials across various hospitals include public and private hospitals on the use of plasma therapy.
In phase II multicentre randomised controlled trial, the ICMR has come to a conclusion that the indiscriminate CPT procedure didn't fare well in bringing down the mortality rate.
Recently, many Covid-19 recovered patients including celebrities have donated their plasma to treat the pandemic patients.
