BJP earned over Rs 1,000 crore in the financial year 2017-18 to emerge as the richest political party in the country. This was revealed with the annual returns submitted by the Saffron Party to the Election Commission.
Mayawati's BSP attained second spot by increasing its fund to Rs 717 crore from Rs 681 crore. Mamata Banerjee-led TMC funding increased to 291 crore from Rs 262 crore in 2016-17. While CPM posted income of Rs 104 crore for 2017-18, CPI could manage only Rs 1.5 crore. Congress and few other parties are yet to announce their annual income.
Apparently, BJP managed to get a revenue of Rs 210 crore from the electoral bonds notified by the Government in January this year. It managed to get 95 percent of the Rs 222 crore worth of bonds issued by Public Sector Banks.
BJP's financial resources will certainly worry the Opposition Parties which are planning anti-Modi front ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha Polls.
