AP Government declared Special Category Status is a closed chapter citing the statement issued by NITI Aayog ruling out any such possibility. CM Chandrababu Naidu went a step ahead to declare that Centre has discontinued Special Status to all the 11 States in the country in April 2016, so the question of special incentives for Industries & tax exemptions doesn't arise.
In response, CPI State Secretary K Ramakrishna pointed out that NITI Aayog has revoked Special Status in all the 11 states and they will receive exemptions/incentives till 2027. He accused the state and central governments of misleading and cheating the people of AP.
In August this year, Centre sanctioned tax exemption for Industries in the north eastern and Himalayan states till March 2027 without mentioning about Special Category Status. It's been projected as a refund under the GST regime which rolled out on July 1st, 2017.
Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs chaired by PM Modi sanctioned budgetary support under the GST regime for the eligible Industrial Units in Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and Seven North Eastern States.
