Spoiling the planning and aim of the Bharatiya Janata Party to record a third consecutive win in Lok Sabha polls, the British Broadcasting Corporation(BBC) released its old documentary on the Gujarat riots recently. The supporters of the BJP are saying that there could be a conspiracy behind this as the old documentary was released when the Lok Sabha elections were one year away.
The documentary created a sensation in India and the ruling party banned the documentary. But people managed to watch the documentary and a few people were arrested for screening it. The Supreme Court also raised questions on the ban and the opposition parties are saying that it is nothing but an imposed emergency.
Adding fuel to this, the Income Tax Department teams reached the offices of the BBC in the national capital Delhi and financial capital Mumbai. The staff at these offices were reportedly asked to leave the place and key evidence was found by the officers.
The political experts raise doubt on BJP allegedly fearing the documentary and its fear reaching its peak. They say that banning the documentary can be seen as fear and raiding the offices of the BBC shows how much the union government is fearing the documentary.
Many ask why the IT department searched the offices all of a sudden though the offices are working here for a very long time. Adding fuel to this, the opposition parties, journalists, and writers' bodies came in support of the BBC and said that it is nothing but harassment against the news organizations that are against the ruling party.
Famous media outlets in other nations are also targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party on this and are saying that the journalists' phones were allegedly seized and the actions are nothing but an action against the BBC documentary that traces the rise of Narendra Modi from a Chief Minister to a Prime Minister.
From the opposition parties to critics to activists everyone is saying that the ruling party is after the BBC and is doing all this just to target the organisation and its journalists. This might even impact the BJP's winning chances in the Lok Sabha polls.
