YSRC in an effort to fight the mighty Nara Chandrababu Naidu in his home turf took the help of a non-controversial IAS officer. Jagans party is all set to field former IAS officer V Chandramouli against TDP chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu at Kuppam Assembly segment in Chittoor district for upcoming elections.
The former Kadapa collector is known to be a close associate of YSR and belongs to backward caste. His community people are more in number in Kuppam constituency. While Naidu's caste has less than 2% votes in the constituency, Chandramouli's caste enjoys clear dominance having a 20% vote base.
The decision to field an IAS officer from Kuppam is seen as an attempt by Jagan to storm Naidus bastion in the 2014 election. After getting the green signal from YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy, Chandramouli quit as CDS director general last week.
Starting from 1989, the TDP chief won the Kuppam seat five times with a huge majority, bagging more than 65% votes in every election. Though it was a tough task to beat Chandrababu in Kuppam YSRCP is carving all the plans to reduce his majority.
In the 2009 elections, Naidu beat his opponent by a margin of 43,886 votes, the highest-ever victory margin in Kuppam.
