If the open display of bonding and affection that AP Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has on the BJP senior leader and Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari is any indication, the YSRCP appears to be having no inclination to join the anti-Modi camp anytime soon. The YSRCP is firmly with the Modi government despite the vigorous efforts of KCR to form a non-BJP front.
On Thursday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the flyover at Vijayawada's Benz Circle. He also formally launched the works on 51 infra projects on the remote mode. Both Jagan and Gadkari shared the stage. Jagan profusely thanked the Central Government for all the help it is giving in developing the state. This open admission of Centre's cooperation actually questions KCR and Mamta Banerjee's claims that the Centre was discriminating against the states.
Jagan has thus sent indirect signals that he is not interested in joining the KCR-led front and that he is firmly with the Modi-Shah combine. This indirectly implied that he is going to throw his lot with the Modi government in the upcoming election of the President of India. He has also indicated that he would like to steer clear of anti-Modi politics like Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik and AIADMK.
Sources say that Jagan is playing his cards carefully. He is keeping the interests of the state at the top of his agenda and feels that aligning with Modi is the best option for the present. His future moves would depend on the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He can calibrate his stand based on the election results, say analysts.
