Elderly Man Robs Bank To Get Benefits In Prison!

In a shocking incident, an elderly man was arrested for robbing a bank. The amount he robbed is just one dollar. The accused is said to have not left the bank after the robbery and waited there till the cops arrived. The elderly man wanted to get arrested and he did the robbery on purpose.

The incident is reported from the United States. The accused identified as Donald Santacroce reached the Wells Fargo Bank branch in Salt Lake City in Utah. The 65-year-old went to the employees in the bank and handed over them a note asking them to give him money.

In the letter, the accused is said to have asked the employees to pardon him for doing the robbery and asked to give one dollar. Please pardon me for doing this but this is a robbery. Please give me $1. Thank you", he is said to have mentioned in the letter.

It is said that the elderly man did not leave the bank after taking the money and he insisted the employees call the police. After the Police reached there they took him along with them, as per the media reports.

While the elderly man robbing the bank for one dollar is a big shock, the reason behind this is another big shock. Donald Santacroce robbed the money to get arrested as he wants to go to federal prison.

The prison system in America is such that the inmates would get all the facilities like health care and others. Of late the trend of older people wanting to go to jail is catching up. People who want to get health care are planning such small robberies and going to jail.

The offenders attract and count on them based on the crimes they do. Based on that the prisoners are punished and rehabilitated. Prisoners with small counts are not punished and they can get some benefits.

So uninsured people are doing small robberies and enjoying health insurance. The small robberies are dubbed as $1 bank robberies. The trend is slowly catching up there. People started hearing about this in the early 2000s and at regular intervals, the incidents are popping up.
