In a shocking development, Indiaâs coronavirus tally jumped to 23,96,637 on Thursday with the highest single-day spike of 66,999 new infections.
The country recorded 942 fresh fatalities in the last 24 hours, which pushed the death toll due to the disease to 47,033.
The number of active cases in the country stands at 6,53,622 while 16,95,982 patients have been discharged so far, according to Union health ministry. On a positive side, the recovery rate has reached another high of 70.38 per cent.
Globally, over 20 million people have been infected with coronavirus, including 747,845 deaths. The United States continues to remain the worst affected followed by Brazil and India.
