New Strains of Covid-19: Government announces new guidelines for passengers

When India is slowly moving towards tackling the ongoing Coronavirus effectively. The new lineages of respiratory diseases are increasing in the country rapidly, which has raised several questions about the virus spread.

Amid growing fears about the new lineages of the ongoing pandemic, the union government issued a new set of guidelines for travelers arriving in India.

The fresh guidelines issued by the Union Health Ministry apply to all the international passengers coming to India. However, the passengers from the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Middle East were barred from the guidelines.

The new guidelines issued by the Union Health Ministry will come into effect from 23 February. International passengers should produce a self-declaration form before the scheduled time. The form should be submitted on the online Air Suvidha portal.

The passengers coming from Brazil, South Africa, and the United Kingdom, who test positive for the virus and their contacts, if they test positive will be shifted to the isolation facilities.

The asymptomatic passengers will be permitted to board the flight after they go through thermal screening. The thermal screening will be conducted before boarding the flight.

The data shared by the Union Health Ministry said that India registered the first infection of the Brazil variant on Tuesday, while 187 patients have been infected with the UK lineage so far.

The Union Health Ministry took to Twitter to announce the new set of guidelines which will come into effect from the 23rd of February. The Ministry urged the passengers to follow the guidelines.

"Attention Passengers! All incoming international travellers (except travellers coming on flights originating from UK, Europe and the Middle East) should make sure that they follow the guidelines issued by @MoHFW_India," the health ministry's tweet reads.
