Parliamentary committee Pulls Twitter and directs to appear before the panel!
Since the new IT rules were announced, the social media giant Twitter and Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led union government have been locking horns with each other. As a new development in the IT rules row, the Parliamentary Standing Committee has summoned Twitter.
In the summons, the Parliamentary Standing Committee directed the microblogging site to give a representation to the panel on the 18th of this month at 4 PM.
Twitter received the fresh summons, weeks after the Centre served the final notice to comply with the new IT rules that were introduced to monitor the content.
In the letter, the Parliamentary Standing Committee said, the summons were served to Twitter as it didn't provide any clarifications, despite the It Ministry writing several letters in this regard.
The motto behind sending summons to Twitter is to hear from the social media giant on why it is not ready to comply with the new rules, a panel member was quoted by the News Agency ANI.
This is not the first time the parliamentary committee has summoned the microblogging site in connection with the new IT rules. The committee has served the summons to Twitter on multiple occasions.
Earlier this month, Twitter in a letter to the Centre said that it is making all the possible efforts to comply with the new IT rules. Twitter gave t Covid-19 pandemic as a reason for the difficulty in complying with the new rules.
