Stepping up its action plan for Telangana, the Congress High Command on Friday announced the all-important screening committee to choose the candidates for the upcoming elections in the state. The committee, headed by former MP Bhakt Charan Das, will soon screen the candidates for the upcoming assembly elections. The other members of the committee are Jothimani Sennimalai and former president Pranab Mukherjee's daughter Sharmishtha Mukherjee.
Announcing the committee senior leader and party General Secrtary Ashok Gehlot said that the committee would screen the possible candidates and help in the finalization of the list. The Telangana assembly has been dissolved on September 6, advancing the polls in the state. The Congress, which is making a determined bid to defeat the ruling TRS, has decided to form an umbrella alliance comprising Telugu Desam Party, Communist Party of India and Telangana Jana Samithi of Prof Kodandaram.
