SC Imposes Stay On AP Municipal Polls

Update: 2020-01-15 12:20 GMT
The Supreme Court imposed stay on Municipal Elections scheduled to happen in Andhra Pradesh in the month of February.

In its 2010 verdict, Supreme Court made it clear Reservations can't exceed 50 percent. About 59.5 percent reservations were offered for the upcoming local body polls against the SC guidelines.

Prathap Reddy and Ramanjaneyulu moved the High Court against the reservations exceeding 50 percent. While imposing a stay on AP Municipal Polls, The Apex Court ordered High Court to announce its decision on the petition within four weeks.

Stay order might delay the Panchayat, MPTC and ZPTC elections in Andhra Pradesh. There won't be any issue if the reservations are brought down to anywhere below 50.
